Wednesday (September 4): Chief, founder and key leader of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Maulana Masood Azhar, chief, founder and key leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba/Jamat-ud-Dawa (LeT) Hafiz Muhammad, chief operation commander and one of founder members of LeT Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, and 1993 Mumbai blasts mastermind who runs an international underworld crime syndicate and is involved in perpetrating acts of terror Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar are among the first individual terrorists declared under the amended Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The government has made amendment to Unlawful Activities Prevention Amendment (UAPA) Bill, 1967, on 2 August with power to seek an ‘individual’ as a terrorist. Earlier when terrorist organizations were banned, the individuals associated with it simply changed names and continued to carry out terrorist activities and terrorism remains intact.
All of the above are involved in terrorist attacks in India, and have been designated as global terrorists under United Nations.
