Former Union Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley, 66, passed away on Saturday at 12:07 pm after a period of illness. He was admitted to AIIMS on August 9. He was senior BJP leader and held various important portfolios during previous NDA regime including finance and defence.
A renowned lawyer, Mr. had been active in political sphere since college. He was elected as President of DSU (Delhi Student’s Union) in 1974 as a member of ABVP (Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad). He was also one of the leaders who were emergred during the period of emergency. He was arrested and put in imprisonment for 19 months during emergency.
Mr. Jaitley did schooling from St. Xaviers. He completed higher education from Sriram College of Commerce and Law Faculty, Delhi University. He joined BJP in 1980. The historic bill of Goods and Services Tax (GST) was passed when he was Finance Minister.
Mr. Jaitley, was known to be a man above party politics. He had friends across all parties and aisles. His death has caused irreparable damage to the BJP.
