Wednesday (December 18): ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam’ (MNM) Chief Kamal Haasan today visited the Madras university to express solidarity with the protesting students against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

During his interaction with the students, he assured them that he would continue to raise their voices.

“Till I die, I will call myself a student, I have come here in that capacity to be their defender. I will keep voicing whether or not I have started a party and now that I have started a party it becomes my duty to be here,” Haasan said.

In West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today took out a rally against the amended Citizenship Act and urged Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure the “country does not burn over the citizenship law”.

She was part of the rally which was from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade in Kolkata for the third consecutive day, after holding two protest marches in north and south Kolkata on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
