Saturday (September 28): A five-judge Constitution bench, will likely hear the petitions challenging the Constitutional validity of the amendment to Article 370.
The hearing will commence from Tuesday, October 1, and it is learnt from various sources that the bench will be headed by Justice N V Ramana.
A bench, headed Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, had on August 28 referred the pleas to the five-judge bench for hearing in October.
On August 28, the court had issued a notice to the Centre, rejecting its request not to issue the notice “as it may have cross-border repercussions”.
Multiple petitions have been filed in the matter, including National Conference MPs Mohammad Akbar Lone, from Baramulla and Hasnain Masoodi from Anantnag.
On 5 August, the central government had abrogated Article 370 and scrapped the ‘special status’ of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and instead created two separate UTs (Union Territories) named ‘Jammu and Kashmir’ and ‘Ladakh’.
