Tuesday (September 17): “Sardar Vallabhai Patel’s vision inspired the central government’s move on Jammu and Kashmir,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a rally near Sardar Sorovar dam.

Mr. Modi is celebrating his birthday today in his home State. He turns 69 today.

Mr. Modi offered prayers at the Sardar Sarovar dam where ‘Namami Narmada’ festival is being organised as the dam has achieved full reservoir level for the first time in its history.

Prime Minister Modi in his speech said, “September 17 is celebrated as Hyderabad Liberation Day because of the vision of the former Home Minister, whose efforts ensured that erstwhile Hyderabad princely state was annexed with the Union of India in 1948. I am happy to see the rising number of visitors to the Statue of Unity.”

About the statue he further said, “The 133-year-old Statue of Liberty in USA gets around 10,000 visitors per day, about 8,500 people visit the 11-month-old Statue of Unity daily, making it one of the fastest growing tourist places in the country.”

‘Namami Narmada’ celebrated by the Gujarat government to mark the filling up of the dam to its full reservoir level of 138.68 metres due to heavy inflow of waters from Narmada’s catchment areas in Madhya Pradesh.
