Monday (September 16): Indian National Congress (INC) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have entered into a seat-sharing agreement today for the upcoming state assembly elections.

“The two parties will contest 125 seats each while leaving 38 seats for allies”, NCP supremo Mr. Sharad Pawar said. He was addressing a press conference in Nashik, today.

He further said, “An exchange of 15 to 20 places is taking place between the Congress and NCP which will be decided soon.” “There will be joint meetings at several important places. This time, new faces will be given a chance,” Pawar added.

Ending 15 year-old alliance in 2014, the two parties had contested the state elections separately, after the they had been unable to reach a seat-sharing arrangement.

In the previous assembly elections in 2014, Congress had won 42 seats while the NCP had won 41 seats.

About many people from NCP joining BJP, he responded, “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in power at the Centre and so many of our party people are joining the BJP. The central probe agencies are being misused.”

“I have been in the Opposition for the last 24 years. But those who have left me were probably not ready to wait,” he added.
