Metro train passengers can carry 25 kg weight in India
• Now, passengers in Metro train in the country can carry a heavier bag as the weight limit has been increased to 25 kg from 15 kg.
• Metro Railways (Carriage and Ticket) Rules, 2014 was amended to pass new regulation. Baggage containing personal belongings should not be exceeding 80 cm x 50 cm x 30 cm in size and 25 kilograms in gross weight.
• Passengers of the dedicated metro line for airport connection can carry the baggage of 32 kg. It should not be exceeding 90 cm x 75 cm x 45 cm in size.
Horticulture production estimated to be over 313 million tones
• Department of Agriculture estimated that the total horticulture production of the country is estimated to be over 313 million tonnes which are 0.69 percent higher than the production in 2017-18.
• Department of Agriculture released third Advanced Estimate (2018-19) that indicates 23.48 Million Tonnes of production, which is 0.95 percent higher than the production last year.
• Overall rise is observed in the production of fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers and honey whereas decrease is observed in the production of plantation and aromatics and medicinal crops as compared to last year.
Sports Minister distributes Rs 1.82 cr to medallists of Para-Badminton World Championship
• Minister of State (Independent Charge) Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju has handed over 1.82 crore rupees to the medallists of the Para-Badminton World Championship.
• As per the new guidelines, medal winners in world championships and world events will be eligible for cash awards from the government.
• Gold medal winners took home 20 lakh rupees, the silver medallists were given 14 lakhs and bronze winners 8 lakhs each.
• The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has invited students to name its next rover that is scheduled to land on Mars in February 2021.
• It has given ‘Name the Rover’ challenge and winners of this competition will be announced on February 18.
• The challenge is open to K-12 students in the US who will need to submit the name of the rover along with an original, short essay of a maximum of 150 words.
